Special Interests

I think that one of the biggest problems with modern politics is the question of what exactly a "Special Interest Group" is. Both sides complain about the special interests that support their opponents...which begs the obvious question of what exactly a special interest is and why is a group only a special interest when it's in support of the opposition.

Both sides have special interests. The NRA has vowed to do whatever it can to defeat Obama and the Catholic Church disagrees with Paul Ryan's budget plan to cut social programs while continuing to lower the taxes of the super rich. Doesn't it annoy you that on one side these groups are "Special Interests" while on the other they're merely "Concerned Citizens"?
